Animation files can be created directly in the grandMA 3D software that will show camera movements and series of cues from the grandMA console. This means that, completely free of charge, users can preprogram their shows at home, hotel room or in transit on their personal computer and then upload their show data via floppy disk or directly via Ethernet to any grandMA console. See the instructions in the next section for this process. Note: grandMA2 Fixture Profiles must be converted before they can be used in a grandMA3 show. Download the fixture from grandMA2 FixtureShare, grandMA3 FixtureShare, GDTF-Share, or your email. grandMA 3D also connects directly to the free grandMA Offline software, either on the same PC or another PC on the same network. In such a case, follow these instructions to import the fixture profile into your show file. However, with the ever-growing fixture count of today's shows, using a network protocol to send DMX is an increasingly popular way to get control of your fixtures. 5-pin DMX cables from the back of the console is the traditional method. This 3D positional information is then stored in the grandMA console show file. There are a variety of options when it comes to transmitting DMX from your MA2 console to your fixtures. Once fixtures are specified in the console they automatically appear on the grandMA 3D software ready to be positioned in the virtual environment.

Since the grandMA 3D acts as an integral part of a grandMA console, information only has to be input once as opposed to twice as with other visualization systems. The simplest way to use effects in the grandMA2 is to work with predefined effects. grandMA 3D uses Direct X technology from the computer gaming industry and requires no external devices, such as dongles or interfaces. Connection to any grandMA console is via Ethernet and allows lighting designers and console operators to visualize their programming in a highly realistic virtual environment. GrandMA 3D is a free state of the art visualization program for PC’s running Windows 2000 or X/P.
